11MONTREAL - How To Choose The Right Size for Breast Augmentation

Choosing your breast implant size

One of the most important decisions you need to make is what you want your breasts to look like after the operation. To do this, you need to decide on the following four key elements regarding your implants:

  • Type
  • Taille
  • Shape
  • Profile

Once you are confident in these four factors, your breast augmentation procedure is ready to commence, and you can start to look and feel your best.

Breast Implant Options to Look For

Dr. Arash can offer a range of breast implant options, including:

  • Implant material: Saline or silicone
  • Implant shape: Round
  • Implant profile:
    1. Low profile: implants with a wide implant base that do not project as much (best for women with broader shoulders)
    2. Moderate profile: implants with a more narrow base (compared to low profile implants) that project further from the chest
    3. High profile: implants with a narrow base that project even further from the chest (best for petite women)
  • Implant placement:
    1. Subglandular: under the breast tissue and on top of the pectoral muscle
    2. Submuscular: under both the breast tissue and pectoral muscle
    3. Subfascial: under the muscle covering, known as the fascia (between the gland and the muscle)
    4. Dual-plane: half under the muscle and half under the breast tissue
All of the above options can contribute to the size and profile of your enhanced breasts.

Breast Tissue Thickness Is Important

Another important consideration for breast augmentation is the thickness of the tissues of your breasts. If you’re a woman with thick breast tissues may be able to accommodate a wider implant than a woman with thin breast tissues. This difference relates to how the implant interacts with and stretches the breast tissues and skin, especially over time. In thin patients, wide implants are more likely to stretch and thin the tissues, leading to less padding over the implant and causing visible implant ripples.

Consider Your Natural Breast Size

You will need enough breast tissue and skin to accommodate the implants. Choosing a breast implant that is too large for the breast tissue and skin to contain can significantly increase your risk of complications.

Breast Implant Size Is A Long-Term Decision

Breast augmentation can sometimes be an experience of immediate gratification. We advise that you temper your immediate goals (which sometimes include having very large breasts) with the reality that this is a long-term life decision you are making. That is, think about how your breasts will look in the future, as much as how they will look in the first year after augmentation. We will help you through this process and try to help you make a wise choice. Please be assured: we are very good at this. The overwhelming majority of our patients are thrilled with their breast size after augmentation and we rarely return to surgery to replace a patient’s implants due to undesirable size.

The Choice Of Breast Implant Size Is Yours

Ultimately the breast implant size you select is your choice. We respect your needs and your prerogative in making this very personal decision. Simply put- we are dedicated to providing you with the results you desire.

What to expect after breast augmentation surgery?

After the procedure, there may be some discomfort, which will continue to decrease, and patients generally recover fully after a few days. Prescription pain medications will be administered to manage this discomfort. Walking is encouraged, but strenuous activities should not be undertaken. In most cases, patients can return to light activities after a week. Expect to fully recover from breast augmentation procedures within a few weeks.
